Instagram 2.1 Gets Lux Photo Enhancement Feature, Revamped UI, New Sierra Filter & More

Instagram has released a new version of their award winning and one of our top must-have iPhone apps, which makes it simple and fun to make and share photos on your iPhone.

Instagram v2.1 gets a new and improved user interface and includes a number of new features such as Lux - a photo enhancement feature, a new filter called Sierra and improved iOS Notification Center integration.

Instagram has explained a bit more about the new features on their blog:

Lux

We’ve given you a new way to instantly transform the look and feel of your photos. In just one tap, Lux works its magic by making your photos more vibrant and bringing out details you couldn’t see before. Use it with a filter or without.

Simplified + Improved UI

We’ve simplified the look of Instagram. The improved header and menu buttons in this release are the first steps towards making it easier to understand and interact with our app.

Tappable Notifications

Now, when you tap on an Instagram notification in the iOS Notification Center, you’re brought directly to the relevant photo, comment or user profile page in the app.

You can check out the image below before and after using the 'Lux' photo enhancement feature. It's quite similar to Camera+'s popular 'Clarify' feature.

You can download Instagram 2.1 using this App Store link for free or update it via the Updates Tab in the App Store app.

As always, let us know what you think of the new and improved Instagram app.
