Native Screen Capture comes to Android, finally!

Screenshot – an image of a your current phone display that can be saved as a graphics file, a feature many rooted, Sense 3.0 and Galaxy series users take for granted. This feature is fun, not only a tool for sharing (and boasting), but also pivotal for reviewing apps and pointing out errors.

As one can only wonder why Google took so long to get the ball rolling on this one, but it is ultimately implementing native screen capture in the shortly to be heralded Ice Cream Sandwich. Just yesterday before the launch the guys at AndroidPolice excavated some code, informing that it would just take a simple press of both the volume down + power button and VOILA!  This feature was later confirmed at the Google – Samsung event where ICSand Galaxy Nexus were showcased.

It just got so much smoother for you to post your pimped-out screens for your iPhone friends to drool over.

One feature down, lots more to go…. Are there any features you want Google to include in their next update, if yes then let us know in the comment section. All I desire is to Google to take it up another notch and add native video (with sound) capture. That would be EPIC!

iPhone 5 To Have A Screen Smaller Than 4-inches With A Metal Back? [REPORT]

Reports regarding the iPhone 5 design and release date keep on coming! A report published today suggests, as we’ve been hearing before, that the iPhone 5 will have a slightly larger screen than the iPhone 4: a 3.7” edge-to-edge display which will be achieved by slimming down the panel’s bezel.

iPhone 5

The report comes from the imaginative folks over on DigiTimes which cite upstream panel supplier which have supposedly revealed that the iPhone 5’s panel size will be less than 4”. This points towards a possible 3.7” display which will be achieved by ensuring that the display bezel is as thin as possible. These would make the next generation iPhone’s display an edge-to-edge one.

Besides this, it is stated that the back would be made out of metal instead of glass.

Despite rumors about iPhone 5 featuring a 4.2-inch panel circulating within the IT market for a while, following a leak from Apple’s website in Switzerland in early August, sources from upstream panel suppliers have recently revealed that the iPhone 5's panel size will still be less than 4-inch.

In addition, iPhone 5's back design will be changed to a metal chassis instead of reinforced-glasses.

The sources added that the iPhone 5 will adopt a 3.5- to 3.7-inch panel with a design to allow the bezel of the panel to become thinner and make the screen look larger.

We actually have no way to confirm this report until Apple actually announces the next-generation iPhone itself but rumors of a larger-screen’d iPhone have existed for a long, long time. Previous reports have suggested a 4” display which, well, sound like a better idea to us than 3.7” one which is only a marginal improvement. I personally would love to see an iPhone with a display larger than 3.5” as I find it quite difficult to adjust to a small screen (like that of the iPhone 4) after using the brilliant 4.3” display on the Samsung Galaxy S II.

In other iPhone 5 related news, there are reports flying around which suggest that the iPhone 5 will not only be available on Sprint but on T-Mobile as well! This would certainly help Apple strengthen their position against Android smartphones as the leading smartphone manufacturer.

The iPhone 5 is expected to be announced in the coming weeks with a release scheduled for late September or sometime in October.

Imerj Android Powered Dual screen device spotted, could this revolutionize the industry?

When we talk about dual screen Android powered devices, first thing which comes to our mind is the Kyocera Echo and it’s failure in the market. Well this device is somewhat similar to the Echo, it is foldable with a hinge in the middle, can be closed and used as a phone but the similarity ends there. This new unnamed device from Imerj and Frog (Formerly known as Frog Design) looks promising with a good design (looks a bit like the iPhone 4 when closed), the software customizations over Android 2.3 and a good build quality.

The unnamed device is months away from production, but the prototype which Engadget managed to get, looks quite good and stable. It is also really easy to open the device, just fold it like a book and you get a phone, and when you open it, the second screen automatically comes to life. Engadget mentions that the build quality of the device is “solid” and feels high-end.

Let’s take a look at it’s specs:

4” WVGA AMOLED (Both the screens)Combined resolution of 800 x 960Android 2.3 (Will be upgraded to Ice Cream)TI OMAP dual core processor (The clock speed has not been disclosed yet)1 GB DDR3 RAM32 GB internal storagemicroSD card slot (Expandable upto 32 GB)1750 mAh battery5 MP Camera

This device runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) with a custom UI on top of it. It provides true multitasking with quick switching in a card format, it also supports bezel gestures both adopted from WebOS. These are the features that really makes this device unique. The hardware of this device also looks up to date with a dual core processor and 1 GB of RAM, the catch is that internal storage which can range from 32 GB to 128 GB which is currently not available in any handset.

You can have a look at the official promo video of this device below. At the end this device is being put inside a tablet shell just like the Pad-Phone, but there is no news about that yet.

This dual screen device really looks fantastic and totally unique, can it really revolutionize the Smartphone industry?

Apple iPad 3 Might Use Samsung AMOLED Screen

Tim Cook, Apple’s COO and acting CEO had visited South Korea last week and reports state that, he went to discuss the possibility of using Samsung’s AMOLED screens for the upcoming iPad 3.

The Apple iPad 3 as we mentioned earlier might be more interesting than the iPad 2. It seems that Apple have planned to launch the iPad 3 towards the end of 2011 and that Samsung’s AMOLED technology might be used in it.

Earlier reports suggested that the production capacity of the AMOLED units wasn’t acceptable to Apple since Samsung had a tough time supplying screens for their own phones.

The news has not yet been confirmed and as of now it is just a rumour since a Samsung Mobile Display spokesperson said that he has not heard of such discussions taking place. The rumour suggests that Apple offered Samsung an advance for the AMOLED units.

The offer comes at a time when the two companies are engaged in a legal dispute which again causes us to doubt the legibility. Lets wait and see what happens eventually.
