Survey shows Apple offers most-satisfying mobile shopping experience
Survey shows Apple offers most-satisfying mobile shopping experience
By Josh Ong
Published: 03:00 AM EST (12:00 AM PST)Respondents to a new survey gave Apple the highest satisfaction scores for its mobile commerce experience, with online retailer Amazon coming in second.
The study from ForeSee (via VentureBeat) collected responses from 3,000 visitors to apps and mobile sites for the top 40 U.S. retailers' websites based on revenue. Apple received the top score of 85 for its mobile experience, faring better than its own Web experience, which scored 83.
Amazon was a close second with a satisfaction score of 84. Dell came in third with a score of 78, and Netflix and eBay tied for fourth with 77.
As the adoption of smartphones increases, more consumers are using them to access retailer websites,? said Larry Freed, President and CEO of the analytics firm. ?More and more, there is expectation that companies will address the mobile environment in ways that are effective and user-friendly. Mobile commerce is still relatively new and there is a lot of room for innovation and improvement."
Respondents generally ranked their mobile commerce experiences as less satisfactory than Web experiences, though Apple was a rare exception.
?The gap between mobile experience and web experience is an opportunity for retailers as much as it is a liability. We know consumer expectations will only continue to grow, and right now Amazon and Apple are setting a very high bar,? he continued.

The survey also found that 34 percent of online shoppers use their mobile phones to research purchases. 15 percent of respondents said they made purchases directly from their phone, up from 11 percent last year.
19 percent of shoppers said they used their mobile phones to compare prices while shopping in a store. Amazon sparked a controversy last month when it began offering discounts for items to customers who used its Price Check shopping app to check prices while at a physical store.
An earlier report from ForeSee released late last month found Apple to be the top computers and electronics retailer and the second overall in terms of customer satisfaction.
A separate study revealed that iOS users account for the majority of mobile e-commerce transactions. Retail analysis firm RichRelevance noted a whopping 92 percent of online non-desktop sales last December as having been made from iOS devices.

They have partnered with Nokia to showcase the capabilities of NFC in the mainstream Indian markets. PayMate has recently launched Inter Bank Mobile Payment Service (IMPS) in India.
Nokia promoted the NFC technology on their new phones Nokia 700 and Nokia 701 by offering Ra.One Bollywood movie contents such as ringtones, games, wallpapers. They have also placed NFC tags with unique content across almost 1,000 Nokia outlets in the country.

Adobe stopping development on Flash Player for mobile browsers
If you are big fan of Adobe Flash Player on your Android phone or BlackBerry Playbook , bad news ! Adobe has announced that it is stopping development of Flash Player for mobile browsers and mobile devices. It will however provide critical bug fixes and security updates. This info comes from ZDNET who got early access to this announcement from Adobe. Looks like Adobe is increasing investment in HTML5 and shying away from Flash player on the mobile browser.
Here is the statement from Adobe
Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates.
Most Android phones and tablets have been boasting about flash player functionality as a big feature over other products in the market. Last year, Steve Jobs posted a long explanation about Why flash is banned on the iPhone and now Adobe’s decision to abort development of flash player on mobile pretty much goes in line with Steve’s explanation. Bad news for device makers who have been betting on Flash .

LG Announces Glass-Free 3D Display for Mobile Phones
LG is showcasing it’s new glass-free 3D display for mobile phones at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas.
LG states that it sees a tremendous growth potential for 3D displays and that it is looking to debuting this new exciting wy to watch movies and play games on mobile phones.
The 4.3″ Touchscreen has a WVGA resolution (854×480 Pixels). The technology also provides exceptionally bright and flicker free pictures.
The 3D display uses an applied parallax barrier, which delivers a series of light blocking slits attached to the front LCD panel. These slits ensure that the left and right eye see different images thus giving the illusion of 3D.
The display also has straighter, more upright barriers that are very precisely aligned to the LCD panel. This technological advance not only means smoother, brighter, crosstalk-free images, but also a wider viewing angle than on previous parallax displays.
